Iraq

There are currently 500 youth, between the ages of 15 to 25 years, enrolled in the GCC program in Iraq.  They work in communities that span four governorates across Iraq.

Over the past 18 months, GCC youth in Iraq have worked in their communities through the notion of volunteerism. Furthermore, they have done so under difficult circumstances in communities where violence has targeted the Iraqi people without exception.

To date, GCC youth have implemented 80 community service projects, examples include hosting public seminars on democracy, tutoring at local orphanages, planting flowers at schools and cleaning up public parks.  Community based projects are also implemented for Global Action Campaigns, on these UN recognized days, activities are coordinated with their counterparts around the globe to maximize impact.    

GCC youth in Iraq actively participate in discussions with their counterparts around the globe through video conferences, online blogging and discussion forums on two GCC related websites.

Lastly, youth participate in life skills lessons, such as taking responsibility, managing emotions or making good decisions, as well as ICT training, to build personality and capacity of youth to actively participate in developing and building their communities.
