Student leaders belong to a year-leadership program and organize Global Action Campaigns and action projects in their schools and communities around the issues of food security, climate change, peace and conflict, global health, and education. Using Mercy Corps’ tools, training, and resources, you get the knowledge and skills to carry out campaigns that inform and inspire your classmates to use multi-media to raise awareness, create advocacy campaigns, raise money, and carry out service projects.
The 2011 Global Citizen Corps Annual Leadership Summit will take place in Portland, OR and bring together 20-30 exceptional high school students from around the U.S. for an intensive leadership training program. The Summit will prepare participants to join an international movement of young leaders who are taking an active stand for critical global issues in their communities . Group activities and dynamic guest speakers will propel students to share their own knowledge, while deepening their global understanding. Through interactive workshop, training sessions, and a video conference with their international peers students will develop the skills necessary to work with the media, use the resources available through the Global Citizen Corps website (www.globalcitizencorps.org), navigate Mercy Corp’s cutting-edge social learning network, and design innovative campaigns to inspire their peers. Summit participants will also have the opportunity to briefly tour the beautiful city of Portland.
