Walking for Water
According to the United Nations dirty water is killing more people than wars and other violence. That's why Global Citizen Corps leaders gathered to raise awareness and take action on World Water Day. In Portland, USA leaders took part in a World Water Day walk. They designed activities to build awareness about water issuees and helped a local business, Portland Roasting, raise funds to build a well in Tanzania.
Students from 4 different local highschools hosted a booth along the 3 mile walk to raise awareness about water issues in the context of environmental sustainability and global parternships. Walkers were asked to calculate their daily water usage and compare the numbers to averages around the world. Participants were also asked to consider global governance issues and how they would respond in certain situations to have a better understanding of the water crisis.
