IRAQ & USA - Experience through Performance

IRAQ & USA - Experience through Performance

Last week GCC youth from Kalar, Iraq and New York City, U.S. participated in a live video conference. Ahmed from Iraq described the experience saying, "In the end we had a real and honest discussion about the actual problems facing communities around the world today."

This conference was a very new experience for all of the students involved. At this conference students from Iraq and the United States shared plays that they had developed with one another in real-time. In Kalar the play focused on women’s rights and in New York the students performed a play about hunger and poverty on the streets of NYC.

The conference began with introductions and then the youth on both sides explained their projects. Additionally there was a Q&A about the projects. We discovered that the Iraqi youth wanted to discuss women’s rights in the community and to lessen the violence against women. While the U.S. youth wanted to highlight the plethora of poor people suffering from hunger, poverty and lack of food. In the end we had a real and honest discussion about the actual problems facing communities around the world today.
