Gaza: Gaza City - International Women's Day
On February 24th, 2011, Gaza iYouth conducted a local action for women in responding to Woman International Day on 8th of March. iYouth members implemented a local action inside the iYouth center for oppressed women to make them aware of their educational role in raising their children.
Specialists from mental health and educational centers discussed many important topics about women role in the society, in addition to an interactive psychosocial session that included the womens participation.
Another important topic was awareness about womens rights and their duties, so that they can be treated in a fair way and still be committed to their duties as wives and mothers.
The event day started by welcoming and introduction by iYouth coordinators Maysa and Shireen, then the opening speech from Mr. Imad Al Falouji the Director of Adam Center, talking about the important role of the woman in her society.
The first session done by Dr. Mohammed Madi, confirmation on the importance of woman role in her society, citing with Quran verses and Hadith. Telling the women about stories from Prophet Mohammed history and giving examples about women in that time, which the history talked about.
Second session was a mental health session; Mr. Ahmed Bakeer (Mental Health Specialist) started his speech by talking about the right mental atmosphere, which must be achieved within every family, so that the woman can play effective educational role for her children.
The next session was a presentation made by iYouth member Islam Al Ashi, Islam talked about the rules of perfect relation that must exist between the woman and her husband, for the purpose of creating healthy environment for their children.
Representatives from the Palestinian Res Crescent Society made a discussion about the basics of proper education methods that every woman must know and mechanism of treating her children.
The participated women interacted very much with the presenters, asking questions and receive answers from them, sharing experiences, and learn from each other.
The last session was a psycho-social session, implemented by Mrs. Noura Eid (Psycho-social specialist). She explained more about both the social and mental effects that appear on children as a result of the wrong treatment at home.
In this local action, 40 iyouth girls were engaged from the program and 90 women from different areas and different backgrounds were reached.
