Iraq: Al Kut - Leaders hold Climate Change talk...trees, trashcans and more!!
The six schools in Al Kut city participated in Kut leaders’ increasing climate change awareness campaign. By the end of April, GCC youth groups in Kut, in coordination with six environmental experts, implemented the action project in six schools. The experts were from the Department of Environment. About five thousand school children and students were involved in the project implementation. At 10 am, all six schools held gatherings in school playgrounds at the same time. The GCC youth presented valuable information to the students. The experts talked about the causes of climate change and the helpful role of people in this global issue. Following the speeches about climate change, the GCC youth gave two big trashcans as a gift to the schools, and they planted ten trees together with the school children. The schools promised to annually celebrate April as climate change month. Also, they planned to start working on the development of climate change concepts and increasing awareness of families about this global issue through their children.
