Gaza: iYouth Make an Impact Donating Blood
June 14th was World Blood Donor Day, and in commemoration, iYouth members set about preparing a day to donate blood for children with Thalassemia. Thalassemia is a blood disorder that causes the destruction of red blood cells, leading to anemia.
On June 30th, 2011, iYouth went to the central blood bank society to implement the action. First, an awareness session was held, where members learned the importance of blood donation. Additionally, members received a lot of important information about blood and various blood diseases. They also got some instruction about what to do after giving blood, so as to not feel faint.
After the session, members were screened to see if they could donate. Upon receiving their results, many members were allowed to then go and give blood. Overall, 20 iYouth members were engaged in the action.
