Indonesia: Jakarta - GCC Youth Camp - Unity for Change
Forty-nine youth attended the GCC Indonesia Youth Camp to participate in trainings on leadership, global issues and awareness building. The youth participants were selected from among 492 applicants to become GCC Leaders Indonesia for 2011-2012. For five days the youth focused on how to become active citizens both locally and globally.
Lights of Hope
The leaders will now take steps towards a better future. First by developing their own self-awareness and then, by designing projects that will impact their communities. “I hope GCC leaders 2011 – 2012 will spread their actions to help others and to become great global leaders and global citizens,” said Faqih (GCC Leader 2010-2011). The camp provided youth with the tools that will help them effectively implement actions projects within their communities.
Make Change Together
GCC teaches youth to cooperate with others from different backgrounds. Leaders commented that they enjoyed working in such a diverse setting. One of the participants, Gomat, said that he felt happy and at home among the diverse group. The camp provided youth the chance to learn from each other and to meet many new friends.
In our increasingly interconnected world we no longer live on our own, we are all part of a larger community. As global citizens we must take actions that contribute to the betterment of our society. If you want to make a change, take the first step now.
