Iraq: Sulaimanyah - Smoking awareness project
Smoking is a fatal disease that millions of people suffer from. In order to raise awareness about this problem among teenagers, GCC leaders implemented a smoking awareness project.
On May 26th, the project was commenced in Sulaimanyah. About 20 GCC youth leaders participated in a smoking educational training conducted by medical students. During the two hour training a doctor spoke about smoking, the effects on the body from smoking, and lung cancer.
The next step of this project was a photo exhibition which was displayed in the entrance of the Sulaimanyah public garden. Hundreds of people came to look at the photos. GCC leaders spoke to attendants about smoking and the powerful messages behind the photos. Gifts were distributed to attendants as a symbolic reminder of the event and the negative effects of smoking. Several broadcasting channels covered the event.
