Pakistan: Quetta - Reflecting on a year of GCC

Pakistan: Quetta - Reflecting on a year of GCC

In 2010 Global Citizens Corps piloted a program in Pakistan. The results so far have been outstanding. After a competitive application process, GCC selected 160 Pakistani youth from the districts of Quetta, Swat and Sukkur to become leaders in 2011.

GCC encourages youth to act in their communities by raising awareness about local issues, engaging in community service projects and attending trainings. Youth also connect globally by communicating with youth in other GCC programs around the world through online discussion forums, video chats, and international summits.

The first phase of trainings for 2011 has been completed in all three districts. The most recent training took place in Quetta, July 29-31 where 40 enthusiastic youth leaders came together to learn about self awareness, dialogue, communication skills, leadership, project planning and needs assessments.

The following are reflections from some of the youth who participated:

"The self awareness session was a very interesting topic and the activities were totally different and creative. This helped me to look towards myself in a more productive way."

Fatima GCC Youth Leader, Quetta

"After attending this training I realized that as part of global village I must do something for the betterment of this beautiful planet"

Shumail hameed GCC Youth Leader, Quetta
