Wash, DC: Intern with The Peace Alliance to advance peacebuilding policy

The Peace Alliance is accepting internship applications for Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 to join us in our Washington, DC office for a semester or year-long internship.  To apply send your cover letter and resume to aaron@thepeacealliance.org.

The Peace Alliance is an alliance of organizers and advocates throughout the United States mobilizing support for peacebuilding policies in the US government.  The organization played a substantial role in building grassroots support to sustain the United States Institute of Peace when their funding came under threat earlier this year, and is currently focused on building the youth violence prevention movement, advancing genocide prevention, and a project highlighting the Faces of Peace in the peacebuilding community. Our network includes volunteer grassroots teams in hundreds of US cities, towns, colleges and high school campuses.

The Peace Alliance has a number of exciting internship opportunities available on an on-going basis in our Washington, DC office. We are currently seeking interns with a lot of heart and energy, with a background or interest in conflict resolution.

Participants  will be placed on our teams focusing on:

*New Media: Manage our Twitter and Facebook accounts, organize online
campaigns that mobilize supporters to take action. Interns will be responsible for generating content to engage supporters across our online networks.

*Peace Day Action:  We’re partnering with Ben & Jerry’s to serve 1,000
people on Captiol Hill ice cream in celebration of The International
Day of Peace and to educate about how Congress can become a Peace
Champion.  This project will be a chance for an intern to help organize a large-scale, fun event in partnership with one of the world's leaders peace companies.

*Faces of Peace:  A project highlighting the people of the peacebuilding community and their stories.  As an intern you'd have the chance to meet and communicate with leaders in the peacebuilding field as you help tell the story of what they do.

*Youth Violence Prevention Project: A project to enhance coalition building among the US youth violence prevention community to drive a national conversation on youth violence in America.  We are also building support for the Youth PROMISE Act, Congressional legislation in support of local, collaborative prevention & intervention solutions in America's roughest communities.

*Genocide Prevention:  On the heels of the release of the Obama Administration's Genocide Prevention Presidential Directive, we are looking for interns to monitor the Administration's progress, and to engage our network in this emerging national conversation.

The interns will also be  responsible for supporting and building the network of Peace Alliance advocates, assisting with Capitol Hill advocacy actions and general advocacy campaigning.

We are seeking interns who are bright, creative, enthusiastic, collegial, inspired, disciplined, prompt, organized and committed to “Being the Change” we wish to see.

To apply send your cover letter and resume to aaron@thepeacealliance.org.  Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis for the Fall and Spring.
