In a city like Gaza, perceptions tend to focus on the fear, conflict, and instability that often make the headlines.  However, Gaza has another face, one that shows its inhabitants pursuing a normal life, where people love to live and laugh.

During the month of Ramadan, which promotes fasting, worship, and caring for those in need, the market crowds are bustling.  Crowds of people pour into the souq searching for food and desserts for their family after the long fasting day, while others go to the mosque to pray and read Quran.  Preparations for Eid are taking place, with vendors offering cookies, chocolate, and other festive treats.

In Gaza, Muslims look to their community and take time out of their day to provide Zakah and charity to those less fortunate.  It is a time of cooperation and love, as everyone pulls together to fast; even children, who try hard to wait out the month until Eid when they can celebrate and play together.  In this light, Gaza is not so different from any other Muslim country, despite the unique hardships and history that set it apart in the eyes of the world.
