Indonesia: Jakarta - Playing with Care
On January 14th, Global Citizen Corps Indonesia held an event focused on youth health at Panti Asuhan Putra Bangsa, also known as “Playing with Care.” It was divided into two sessions: 1) a focus group discussion and 2) a hand washing practicum. The event, which was organized by Andi and nine other GCC Leaders, was attended by about 30 orphans.
In the group discussion, kids were divided into 5 groups. Each group was accompanied by two facilitators. One of the leaders read a story aloud, and after, the kids were instructed to paint a picture.
In the next session, one of the facilitators gave explanation about proper hand washing techniques using posters and a video as visual aids. After that, they were asked to practice what they had learned. In order to not waste time, the kids were given games to remember the new techniques to practice while they waited in line.
The event was a fun learning experience for the kids at the orphanage. By partaking in the workshop, the facilitators hoped to give the youth basic knowledge for their daily life, such as proper hand washing, through the easily understandable media. They provided an introduction to one of the simplest ways to stay healthy.
