Indonesia: Bogor - GCC Youth Lead Earth Hour 2012
Earth Hour is a world wide event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and held on the last Saturday of March annually, encouraging households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need totake action on climate change. This event was held for the first time in Australia and spread throughout the world, including Indonesia.
Earth Hour 2012 Bogor is the first Earth Hour to be conducted in Bogor. The event was heldat Bogor Institute of Agriculture, West Java in March 31, 2012. Some of Global Citizen Corps Leaders participated in this event as Organizing Committee which main task is to implement the event that consisted of environment campaigns, concerts and other art performances. After several street campaigns in the morning and afternoon, Bogor Earth Hour 2012 was held at 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Earth Hour Bogor is supported by many Bogor youth communities as well as officials in Bogor.Citra, one of GCC Leaders who organized this event said that she was surprisedby all of supports by government officials especially Mayor of Bogor and Chairmanof West Java Regional Development Board.
