Iraq: Wassit - GCC Youth Support Illiteracy Project
The Illiteracy Project aims to teach illiterate people to read , write and keep accounts of numbers.These are people who live in rural area have missed the chance of joining the schools during their childhood. GCC youth in Teacher Institute visited some of the rural area and found real and necessary need of those people to learn.
GCC youth raised this problem during their meetings with Wassit project officer .He agreed to raise this issue in the Department of Education in Wassit governorate. By end of February the GCC youth had the meeting and our leaders were able to put convince the DoE in opening two illiteracy centers which aims to teach people the read and write simple mathematics, the center is will be administered by our GCC youth under direct supervising from the DoE.
After advertising illiteracy center several people registered their names and IDs To Wassit Directorate of Education, about 30 persons have registered their names. The work on the project started on 15-Mar 2012 after finishing the registration. The study is scheduled for every Wednesday and Thursday of the week, for about Three hours from 2 pm to 5 pm. Another center will also be opened in the center AL- Hay city for Women .Which includes 30 women whose studies will begin early next month after completion of their registration in Wassit Directorate of Education.
