Tips for GCC Leaders
- Don't get discouraged if people ignore your events or don't care about something. If you educate 5 people, that is 5 people that didn't know anything before...and without you, they still wouldn't be educated.
- Encourage others to get involved, whether in GCC or another organization that is closer to their heart.
- Participate in the online discussion boards. They are a great way to share ideas with other leaders around the world and learn about cultures.
- Use Facebook to advertise events. It reaches more people than you could in person or by phone.
- Start a club at your school to help you with the events. And check out the other internationally minded clubs to see if any can possibly be partner clubs throughout the year.
- When donating money to organizations, make sure you check the legitimacy of the organization. You can check a review on www2.guidestar.org
- If you intend on holding events at your school, hold a meeting with your principal at the beginning of the year. Tell him/her about GCC and what sorts of things you will be raising awareness about throughout the year. This way, when you need permission for an event, you will not be catching him/her off guard.
- Keep records of the planning, advertising, action activities, awareness activities, and impact in all of you're events. You will have to state all of these in your Counting Change Surveys.
- It can get stressful to balance GCC with school, make sure you share the workload with other members of the club. DELEGATE!
- Awareness + Action = Impact
- Have fun!
