Seminar on "International Women Day, 2011: Lets Join Hands for Gender Equality”.
While women make up half of the world's population, they represent some 70 percent of the world's hungry. Luckily, there are proven pathways to helping women improve their lives.
On Completion of Hundred Years of International Women Day on March 18, 2011, a Seminar titled “International Women Day: Lets Join Hands for Gender Equality” held for the Youth of Swat, wherein women activists, Youth Leaders and Global Citizens of GCC CYAAD participated in the seminar. They were briefed about the importance of IWD and about women’s issues in global, national and local context by Ahmad Zeb, Coordinator for GCC CYAAD Swat and Ms. Iffat Nisar, a well known women activist and Chair, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Swat.
Youth of Swat were given global and local insight of Women’s Issues, Feminist Theories and Movements, Women’s Role in Development, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Laws, Culture, Traditions and Customs of the area, religions, and recent Global Developments and their relevance to recent situation of women in Conflict and Flood affected District Swat and in Pakistan, in general.
The resource persons put special focus on women’s education as Youth Leaders and Global Citizens are observing Global Month for Education and Gender.
Finally, youth gave their feedback and asked questions from both the resource person and were satisfied of the answers and clarifications. The seminar had a greater impact on the way of thinking of male participants as well as the female participants and they pledged to work for women empowerment.
