Can peace exist without justice?
"The moral arc of the universe is long, but it bends toward justice." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
On this, the last official day of our Peace and Conflict Global Action Month, I find myself thinking a lot about the relationship between peace and justice. Many people would say that you can't have peace in a place where justice is absent. I am glued to the TV, watching the events unfolding in Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, and elsewhere. These are movements--largely led by youth-- demanding justice, freedom of expression, voice, and an opportunity to participate. I wonder if Egypt will ever be a society truly at peace with itself so long as so many people feel repressed and angry.
What do you think everyone? What is the relationship between peace and justice?
