  • Sansori Post-Baccalaureate for Aspiring Social Entrepreneurs

    Want to launch or innovate a sustainable social enterprise? Beginning in June 2011, Sansori will be offering a post-baccalaureate program for young entrepreneurs passionate about creating positive social change.  Drawing from the best of both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors, the 2011 Sansori Jam Session offers anyone ages 21-29 the creative, financial, and organizational tools needed to launch and run a sustainable social venture.  How does it work? During the course of our year-long post-baccalaureate program, you learn by doing. You don't just design your dream venture; you realize it. Our students partner with peers, business and creative professionals, and a network of investors over the course of a year-long program culminating in the launch of their social ventures. The collaboration begins in a three-week residential session at Amherst College in Massachusetts, and then moves online, so students are able to pursue their social ventures even as they continue to support themselves or study.     There are countless opportunities for individuals seeking to pursue academic study at all levels to obtain financial support from private foundations, directly from academic institutions and from various governmental and intergovernmental agencies. In addition, there are a number of fellowships that provide funding for independent research/internships/language study as part of (or after completing) an academic program. As part of developing increased field experience and opportunities, outside funding can be a wonderful opportunity to support work. It is not always easy to obtain a fellowship, as there can be significant competition for a limited number of fellowships. This guide is divided into four parts.   • Aga Khan Foundation’s International Scholarship Programme

    The Aga Khan Foundation is accepting applications for the 2011-12 International Scholarship Programme given for postgraduate studies to outstanding developing country students who have no means of financing their studies. Scholarships are given to students on a 50% grant: 50% loan basis.The main criteria for selecting award winners are: l) excellent academic records, 2) genuine financial need, 3) admission to a reputable institution of higher learning and 4) thoughtful and coherent educational and career plans. Candidates are also evaluated on their extra-curricular interests and achievements, potential to achieve their goals and likelihood to succeed in a foreign academic environment. Applicants are expected to have some years of work experience in their field of interest.   • Nominations and applications invited for the International Writers Project Fellowships

    The Brown University’s International Writers Project Fellowship if for established creative writers who are persecuted in their home countries or are actively prevented from pursuing free expression in their literary art. Both nominations and applications can be submitted for this opportunity.The fellowship provides a one-year residency as a sanctuary for the selected writers. It will be accompanied by a series of lectures, readings and other events that highlight the national artistic and political culture of the writer and address the global issues of human rights and free expression.  It will include a stipend, relocation funds, and health benefits.  Brown will aid the writer in the visa and relocation process and provide administrative support, office space on the Brown campus in Providence, Rhode Island, and equipment.The deadline to submit nominations/applications is 15 February 2011.      Based in New York City with regular travel to Afghanistan, Haiti, Timor Leste, Liberia and other field sites. This  post will oversee  the  launch of PDTʼs new  Factor  Finance  for  Procurement (3FP) Fund. The 3FP project is structured like a private equity fund, albeit one that will be operating in some of the world's most difficult places. The $30m fund will provide loan guarantees to assist entrepreneurs using a factor finance model. The project was recently awarded the G20 SME Finance Challenge Prize in Seoul, Korea  by President  Obama and has the  potential to significantly improve growth in some of the world's most difficult economies.
