Extended Sonnet on the Universal Soul
Extended Sonnet on the Universal Soul
By: Wendi L.
Embedded in the fabric of mankind, Lie lone threads, seemingly individual.
An universal soul hidden, entwined, Makes the essence of our hearts co lingual.
But I don’t pretentiously sermonize,
I am aware of the world’s disregard:
Our disinterest to abolitionize
That discrepancy which leaves kinship charred.
I deliver trivial gestures, promote
Acceptance, kinship, assimilation. Sharing mooncakes, age-old folklore, denotes
My yearning to spread my culture, nation.
Handing out bean paste baozi: they can guess
Past this provincial life, others exist.
Our distant cousins, through the looking glass,
Living the disparagement that persists. We’re one genus, one species, connected, However vast the chasm between worlds.
When our material gains are neglected, Belies the myth of our kindred, unfurled. Tolerance of diversity is key,
Acceptance of differences is hope.
I’m a global citizen; I decree:
What matters is the <3 desire, not the scope.
We don’t have to be great, even beyond, to work towards a universal bond
